Mission: Latched Support is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that empowers growing families with life-saving pregnancy and parenting education through resources and advocacy so that children may receive a healthy start in life.

Vision: Empowering parents to redefine what’s possible for their families while strengthening tomorrow’s community.

It all began in the hallways of a major San Antonio hospital, where two passionate Registered Nurse Lactation Consultants, Ashley and Veronica, crossed paths. United by a shared vision, they identified a glaring gap in healthcare: the families they were treating needed more than just breastfeeding support; they needed a holistic support system.

Fueled by a sense of responsibility and a dash of audacity, the duo took their mission to the streets. Initially, their focus was on breastfeeding support, offering free home visits to struggling mothers. But what they discovered inside those homes was eye-opening and heart-wrenching. The needs of the community were far greater than they had imagined. Parents were not only grappling with breastfeeding challenges but also lacked access to basic parenting education, vital material assistance, and car seat safety guidance.

The realization was profound: they could do more, much more. And so, Latched Support was born. What started as a grassroots effort to help families in need has grown into a powerful force for change, impacting the lives of over 2,500 mothers annually. At Latched, we're not just promoting healthy family experiences; we're championing a healthier, happier future for all.

Ashley Green, RN, BSN, IBCLC and Veronica Simpkins, RN, MSN, IBCLC, WHNP met while working on the postpartum floor of a hospital. They shared a passion for helping new mothers navigate the complexities of breastfeeding and postpartum care. In 2017, they created the nonprofit, Latched Support. They often heard mothers express a need for continued care in their home. While visiting new mothers at home, they found many households revealed dangerous situations—mothers bleeding or experiencing high blood pressure without realizing it.

Recognizing the need for critical care, they launched their Pregnancy & Parenting Program. This ensured mothers receive proper postpartum care. They offered diapers, wipes, food, and hygiene products, alleviating some burdens that can overwhelm new parents. Their holistic approach covers maternal and infant health from prenatal care to breastfeeding, safe sleep practices, infant CPR, childbirth readiness, and postpartum care. In 2023, Latched Support served 3,782 pregnant women.

Their Doula Program extends into the delivery room, ensuring mothers receive emotional and physical support during childbirth. Doulas stay with the mother throughout labor and continue postpartum visits to monitor healing. This program provides support during the most vulnerable moments of a mother's life. Our commitment cares for both mother and baby for up to 36 months.

Certified family support specialists assist with applications for SNAP, TANF, Texas Healthy Women, and the renewal of Medicaid or CHIP. This comprehensive support system ensures that families have access to essential resources. Their Car Seat Safety Program checks for improperly installed or defective car seats which could pose a risk to infants. They provide specialists trained in car seat installation and safety ensuring every baby is secure during travel.

A survey of over 6,000 clients revealed over 50% had to choose between basic needs like food, utilities, and rent, or diapers. They aim to create a stable foundation for families to thrive.
