We are a community-based welcoming hub of support services and opportunities for families.

We are working together with DePelchin Children’s Center and a Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) to create a space tailored to the needs of San Antonio’s Eastside. The United Way Eastside FRC will serve families with children ages 0-10 years old who reside in zip codes 78219 and 78220.

Alejandra Maia

Alejandra Maia is the Family Resource Center Network Director for United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. The United Way Eastside Family Resource Center is in partnership with DePelchin Children’s Center and is working on expansion which would include additional resources centers across the city. We serve as a welcoming hub for support for families. We strive to be reflective and responsive to the specific needs, cultures and interests of the community.

Our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is a collective of parents, grandparents and kinship caregivers who are comprised of residents from the target area, 78219 & 78220. The PAC’s vision is to create a safe haven for families to build relationships and to inspire creativity for caregivers and children to express themselves.

They envision a vibrant and welcoming environment where families feel supported and thrive within their communities. United Way and DePelchin have united to better serve families. United Way’s deep community connections and role as the backbone organization alongside DePelchin’s specialized expertise in counseling and family support services create a comprehensive support system for families.

The Core Services are for caregivers who have a child in the home ages 0-10 who reside in 78219 or 78220. Services include:

  • 1-1 Resource Navigation: Families receive resource navigation with a bilingual Family Resource Specialist.
  • Counseling Services: Individual and Family Counseling at no cost to families.
  • 1-1 Positive Parenting Program: Individual sessions designed to support families on their parenting journey.

While our primary focus is in zip codes 78219 & 78220 for the Core Services above, we do have some capacity to serve adjacent zip codes. The Community Strengthening Services are for any caregivers who have a child in the home who reside in Bexar County. Services Include:

  • Parent Cafes: Opportunities for families to gather and create a network of peer support.
  • Book/Toy Library: Families are encouraged to swing by for a tour and can receive a book or a toy.
  • Computer station: Families can use the computer for job hunting, resume building, benefit renewal, and more.
  • Kids’ Corner: We have a space where children can play and read. We encourage families to have a coffee with the staff and get out of the house.
  • Family Events: Theme-based and family-focused events provide space and time for families to enjoy time together, meet other families and build peer to peer support.
  • Resource Wall: Families & Partners can access our resource wall of flyers, pamphlets, tools, and much more.
  • Family Care Closet: Families can access essential items such as diapers, wipes, hygiene products, and much more.
  • Triple P- Seminars: Group sessions of the Positive Parenting Program designed to support families.
  • Money Smart: This curriculum provides participants with practical knowledge, skills-building opportunities, and resources they can use to manage their finances with confidence.
