Big Mama’s Safe House – Violence Prevention & Survivor Support in San Antonio

Big Mama’s Safe House is a San Antonio nonprofit dedicated to preventing violence, supporting survivors and helping individuals and families affected by gun violence, domestic violence and community trauma. Through a community-based and trauma-informed approach, Big Mama’s Safe House works to create safer neighborhoods while helping people affected by violence access support, resources and opportunities for healing. Programs focus on community violence intervention and prevention, youth development, trauma-informed care, gun safety education and survivor support.

Big Mama’s Safe House also provides practical assistance to individuals and families experiencing hardship. Resources include free food and hygiene items, free gun locks, connections to rental and utility assistance programs, and referrals to additional community services. The organization’s Food & Hygiene Pantry provides nonperishable food and personal-care necessities such as toothpaste, deodorant and period products at no cost.

Youth programs and community violence prevention initiatives help young people develop positive relationships, learn peaceful approaches to conflict and connect with supportive adults and community resources. Big Mama’s Safe House serves San Antonio neighborhoods through East Side and West Side locations. Individuals seeking assistance should contact the organization to confirm current programs, eligibility, hours and availability before visiting.
